The latest plans for a drive-through McDonald’s at the former Field & Trek site at Hawkeswood Road in Bitterne Manor have been refused.

The application, which didn’t go to the planning panel, was refused because it was seen as an “Un-neighbourly form of development” leading to late night/early morning use, opportunities for noise and anti-social behaviour, and likely traffic congestion due to proposed traffic lights.
“Failure to enter into a S106 agreement” was also cited by planning officers.
“It’s excellent news,” Bitterne Park ward councillor David Fuller (Con) told bitternepark.info.
“The views of local residents have I think in this case been vindicated, and I’m glad it’s been refused.
“As I’ve said before I think it’s a totally unsuitable location for a fast food restaurant, and whilst McDonald’s can go to appeal – that’s their right – I’m pretty confident the council’s decision can be defended at that appeal.
“I hope they now move on from this and start looking for another site where they’re not going to have such an impact on local people.”
The full October 24 decision is available from the “Plans and Documents” tab under this planning application.
