The Victorian Fair WILL be taking place again today (Sunday) - see the Daily Echo report here.
Southampton will host a spectacular, free five-day festival to celebrate the arrival of Cunard's new ocean liner, Queen Victoria to her new home port.
From December 7-11 Mayflower Park will step back in time to the Victorian era with traditional rides, carol singers and costumed characters. There will be many activities to appeal to all age groups — you’ll even be able to enjoy a beer in the tavern!
The festival has been jointly funded by Southampton City Council, Business Southampton and Cunard. A carnival procession, themed with the destinations of Queen Victoria, will start from the Civic Centre at 6pm on Friday December 7. It will feature costumes worn and made by school children and community groups, co-ordinated by Thornhill Motiv8, Creative Partnership & TWICS - and promises to be a stunning sight.
December 10 will see HRH the Duchess of Cornwall, accompanied by Prince Charles, officially name Queen Victoria; you’ll be able to watch the action live on a big screen in Mayflower Park.
Queen Victoria sets sail on her maiden voyage on December 11, with a colourful firework display as the backdrop.
