St Mary’s Independent School in Bitterne Park has been closed "as a precautionary measure" after students went into isolation over coronavirus fears.
Executive head teacher Claire Charlemagne confirmed that the school had closed.
The school said in a statement today:
St Mary’s Independent School, Southampton, has closed today as a precautionary measure due to a potential risk of coronavirus reported by members of the school community who have become ill, having recently traveled to the region affected.
The school’s first priority is always the health, safety and welfare of students and staff. The school has been advised by the NHS that it should take all steps reasonably practicable. The school will, therefore, be closed for the next two days. The school will undertake an enhanced clean following advice from Public Health England. The school is very grateful for the support of the agencies involved.
The school would like to thank all staff for their professional, prompt action and all parents for their support and understanding. The school’s thoughts are with those affected at this difficult time.
