Co-owner Jon Harris said the basement area opened on February 14, and took about three weeks to create.

“Everybody’s who seen it has said they very much liked it, and that it’s bigger than they expected,” he said. “I’m quite pleased that it’s given us effectively a basement room. It doesn’t feel cramped at all, it just feels cosy.”

The Bookshop Alehouse opened on February 17, 2016 in the former Peter Rhodes bookshop at 21 Portswood Road.
