The Triangle has now lost its smallest room, with the removal of the ‘pay as you go’ public toilet this week.

The convenience actually closed for use at the end of December.
Feared by some but braved by many, the tardis-like cubicle was reportedly dismantled and removed by a “group of lads in hi viz vests” on Monday (March 2).
They eventually managed to gain access after appearing not to be carrying the necessary coinage, according to onlookers!
In December, Cllr Jacqui Rayment, cabinet member for place and transport and deputy leader at Southampton City Council, said that it was one of three public toilets being removed in the city which had been “put in place as part of an outdoor advertising contract with JC Decaux which started in 2000 and has now ended”.
“We do hope that the impact will be minimal and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience this causes,” she said.
To pee or not to pee?
As previously reported, there are no other public loos at the Triangle. The nearest are a fair old hike away at the Riverside Park pavilion – although it’s hit or miss whether you’ll find them open.

Other loos are around 0.9 miles away at Sainsbury’s in Portswood.
The other option is to take advantage of one of various food and drink outlets around the Triangle that also have a toilet for public use – but of course that can mean spending lots more than a penny, especially if you have a family in tow.
Public toilets in Westridge Road, Portswood (pictured left) were closed in 2014/15 as a cost-cutting measure.
