Traffic bosses could introduce speed cameras and route management systems on Manor Farm Road in an effort to increase safety and improve traffic flow once roads return to normal.

And it’s been revealed that the same technology used on smart motorways could be coming to Bitterne Park, according to an official Southampton Partnership document.
But iJourney teams have reassured drivers and residents that the traffic-calming measures, including new cameras, will only be rolled out on a short stretch of Manor Farm Road at the Triangle – in the first instance at least.
We understand variable speed limits and average speed checks will be in force roughly between Cobden Avenue and the Co-op Food store.

It comes as iJourney systems theory chiefs have revealed new data highlighting the shortcut behind the clock as a critical city traffic flow blockage during usual rush hours.
They say it affects traffic flow on at least three other city bridges at peak times.
“Technology will monitor and manage the flow of traffic, with variable speed limits, average speed checks, all lane running, lane reversal, priority lanes at peak times – and of course a dynamic emergency refuge area for those in crisis, available during off-peak hours,” said a senior iJourney spokesperson.

“It’ll be great for journey times, great for safety, and could improve air quality.”
But Bitterne Park driving organisations have slammed the move as unwarranted, unnecessary and probably darn right dangerous.
“Why are they pressing ahead in the face of recent smart road safety research?” demanded the Bitterne Park Drivers’ Alliance in a statement.
Cobden Bridge Residents’ Association have been contacted for comment.
