Parks will also benefit from the full reintroduction of shrub bed maintenance and planting.

The council said the mowing of grass in public areas was greatly reduced at the end of March as one of many lockdown safeguarding measures, and “to help prioritise the delivery of services against any issues of staff sickness and self-isolation”.

But now parks and open spaces are set for a “springtime spruce-up”, apparently in line with new advice to councils to keep parks open during the lockdown making it easier for those without gardens in particular.

Cabinet member for place and transport Cllr Jacqui Rayment thanked park staff for their commitment and hard work ahead of picking up the normal schedule, and reminded park users to stay two metres away from others.

“Please help to keep the city clean by taking your litter home with you,” she added.
