This from South Central Ambulance Service in their own words:
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has, in light of the challenges faced during the pandemic, moved its southern educational function to Bitterne Park Sixth Form College. Our friends at Bitterne Park Sixth Form offered us their entire Sixth Form to work in during the pandemic - what an amazing offer!
We originally spoke to the Headteacher and the Head of Sixth form in mid-March, and two days later we had moved in!
In the five weeks that we've been in our (temporary) home we have delivered 13 courses which has meant that 102 new staff are now out on frontline ambulances looking after patients!
Not only has this incredible gesture from the senior leadership team of Bitterne Park School enabled us to respond to the coronavirus pandemic by producing new recruits to work on the NHS frontline, it's allowed us to observe social distancing guidance whilst teaching our new staff. Both Graham Wilson (Headteacher) and Paul Overton (Head of Sixth Form) have been key to delivering our training plan, helping us at every turn with an amazing can-do approach. We're hugely grateful to them, the Governors and teachers at Bitterne Park School - a collective of fantastic people doing their bit for the NHS in response to coronavirus.
