It happened around 10.30pm on Tuesday (May 19).
He reported that he was walking his two dogs over Woodmill when a van mounted the curb and struck him before driving off, leaving only its passenger side wing mirror at the scene.
Residents have long complained about the lack of safety for pedestrians crossing the bridge.
“The narrow road and cramped footpath leave no margin for error for such a main thoroughfare. The recent installation of part time traffic lights has done nothing for pedestrians and it is only a matter of time before somebody sustains life changing injuries,” said local resident Martin Glennie.
Police said enquires into the incident are ongoing, and asked anyone with information to call 101 and quote reference 44200178101.
