Sothampton City Council is reminding residents
who have received a letter, asking if they
think they would be eligible for a proposed 10 percent council tax
discount, to send in their details. But opposition parties are questioning the legality of the questionnaire: see this Echo report.
The discount for over 65s is a proposal made within the council’s
Executive budget proposal for next year. Nothing will be decided until
the council meets on February 20, therefore the proposal may not be
implemented. If it is approved, the council needs to be prepared to
make this change and therefore needs to know who might be eligible.
The letter was sent with a data collection form and a list of basic
criteria. It also asked key questions regarding benefit entitlement to
allow the council to ensure residents are receiving all the benefits
they are entitled to.
People can also register their details onine from here.
