Posters for ‘Xiong Qi’ are displayed in the windows, which also mention locations in Birmingham, Coventry, Sheffield and Leicester.
A five-star Tripadvisor review for ‘Xiong Qi Hot Pot’ in Birmingham said: “Very authentic food. Cook it yourself. Lovely staff and really felt as if we were in China. Not your typical 'English' version of food.”
Portswood councillor John Savage welcomed the news: “The Tramstop has been closed for some time and opening the offer on the High Street to new business is really important. I wish them success particularly in these difficult times.”
He added: “It appears to be part of an established chain so the business model is probably sorted. I'm looking forward to it.”
The premises were used for Portswood Road Surgery for many years, before being converted for restaurant use.
