Over Friday and Saturday night, police issued 12 Fixed Penalty Notices to people having a house party in Sherborne Road, Highfield.

And 25 fines were issued to one group of people who were found to be having a house party at a property in Osbourne Road North, Portswood.

An additional 30 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued to people at a house party on Gordon Avenue in Portswood. Police say when they arrived many people “tried to get away by running out of the back of the house”.

All those found to be attending were issued with individual fines.

Assistant chief constable Maggie Blyth commented: “Thankfully, most people in the community understand the seriousness of the situation and are following the guidance. It was great to see lot of people enjoying Halloween in a safe way.

“But this weekend has proved there are always a few people who ignore what is best for them and others, and make decisions that put other people’s lives at risk.

“The majority of the incidents we attended on Saturday night were house parties organised by adults and attended by significantly more than six people. Where this is still happening our enforcement activity is, by necessity, focused and robust.”

A new lockdown comes into effect on Thursday (Nov 5). Full details are on the government's website
