Updated Woodmill Bridge will be closed overnight on Friday night (Nov 13), and part of Whitworth Crescent is also likely to see a closure for five days later in the month. Work on the St Denys Active Travel Zone is also due to start.

The Woodmill Bridge closure is in both directions from 7pm (or 8pm on the council’s roadworks website) to 6am on Saturday, apparently to “safely facilitate bollard removal”.
The recommended alternative route is Manor Farm Road, Cobden Bridge, St Denys Road, Thomas Lewis Way, and Portswood Road.
It’s not specified how this might affect pedestrians.
Meanwhile in Whitworth Crescent roadworks causing a closure are expected from 9.30am on November 23 until 5pm on November 27, from the junction with Cobden Avenue to 50m south of the junction for Connect Utility Services to put an electric cable across the road to the new mast.
Residents are asked not to park in the area during the work. The route will remain open to pedestrians.
The volume of traffic in the surrounding area is predicted to be busier during the period as a consequence.

Part of Whitworth Crescent was closed in early 2018 due to a collapsed pipe under the Whitworth Crescent - pictured above.
Delays are also “likely” as Southern Water puts in multi-way temporary traffic lights on the corner of Whitworth Crescent and Harcourt Road from November 16-21 to enable what’s simply described as: “new connection - tarmac c/way tarmac footway lay 63 mm comm pipe with 6 meters and 32mm comm pipe 3 x trenches for 3 houses in conjunction with permit number 10846322. Footway closure: Alternative route will be provided”.
On Cobden Avenue delays are also “possible” from Nov 13-14 due to “some carriageway incursion” as “channels” are “reset/replaced/made safe”.
Work in St Denys is also due to start this month from November 16 on the new 'Active Travel Zone' trials.
The council says: "The installation of the trial modal filters on Kent Road and North Road in St Denys will take place during the week beginning 16th November. Work will start in Kent Road on Monday 16th and in North Road on Thursday 19th."
It explains: "A modal filter stops vehicles driving straight through whilst still allowing walking and cycling. All houses in the street can still
be accessed by cars but other routes may need to be taken."
You can see the scheme and process in full detail from this council web page, and download a map.
