This year's theme for the week is Alcohol and mental health, and local mental health organisations are also offering support during the second lockdown: Solent Mind (Tel 023 8017 9049) and, for young people, No Limits (Tel 02380 224 224) are available to help during the pandemic.
Cllr Lorna Fielker, southampton City Council's cabinet member for health and adults, said: "We're joining 3,000 other community groups across the UK for Alcohol Awareness Week to raise awareness of the link between alcohol and mental health, to speak out about the issues and the stigma surrounding them, and encourage anyone who is struggling to seek the support they deserve."
"If you are concerned about how much or how often you've been drinking lately, please don't hesitate to talk to someone, whether it's your doctor or the new telephone support line in the city. They're here to support you, because we all know how difficult a time it is has been over the past year. They will listen patiently and help with motivation, encouragement and support you to identify positive reasons for change.”
