Southern Water classifies the incident as a "burst" and says it has a team “working to restore supplies as quickly and as safely as possible”.
“You may notice some discolouration or low pressure; this is completely normal when there’s been a disruption to the supply and is only temporary. Again, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused,” says the company on its incident map, where it posts updates.
The incident was posted to Southern Water’s site at 4.47am.
