Late night power cut affects thousands

pylon looking up pixabaysteel-3073398 640 460A fault on an underground cable network in Bitterne Park on Monday night (Dec 28) caused a power cut that affected 3,000 nearby properties.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) confirmed that the fault occurred in and around the Bullar Road and Riverdene Place area shortly after 10.22 pm.

The company said that on the "rare occasions there is a power cut" its priority is to restore supplies safely and as quickly as possible, and that within two minutes of the fault occuring, automated technology restored power to 1,917 of affected properties.

It said everyone's power was back on by 5.05 am on Tuesday, and that teams will be continuing to investigate and carry out repairs.

A spokesperson from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), said: "We would like to apologise to our customers who were affected by this power cut and assure them our teams did all they could to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible."
