Residents of Townhill Park and the wider community were asked by the council to have their say on the initial designs for a new green space off Meggeson Avenue as part of a survey late last year.
People were asked to choose a name for the new green space, with 68% of 191 responses choosing 'Townhill Green' from a list of options.
Southampton City Council (SCC) said the main reason for choosing Townhill Green was that "it gave the new green space a sense of ownership and inclusivity for the whole community at Townhill Park".

SCC also asked people's preferences for a "feature wall" with 63% choosing a planted "eco-wall", rather than an "art wall".
The space also includes an outdoor exercise area and a themed children's play area.
Kim Ayling, chair of community group SO18 Big Local, said: "I am thrilled to see the results of the survey having a positive impact on the final design of the new green space, now called Townhill Green. It is exciting for our community to see the estate regeneration of Townhill Park happening around us and we look forward to continued progress in the New Year.
"It is so important that the community are at the heart of projects like Townhill Green and I urge all of the residents at Townhill Park to make the most of the focus groups next year by signing up early!"
Townhill Green is funded through a £3.75M Homes England grant, and forms part of the infrastructure improvements for the regeneration of Townhill Park. The grant has also contributed to the improvement work and traffic-calming measures to Meggeson Avenue which were completed in September 2020 to "create a safe, more pleasant environment for people walking, cycling or taking the bus".
