Spring is here and isn't it lovely to see wildflowers brightening up the area?
Pollinating Peartree is a new community project that aims to increase the amount of wildflowers in the Peartree ward, improving it for both humans and pollinating insects such as butterflies and bees.
We're mapping the existing wildflower areas and need your help to add more.
All you need to do is let us know if you see an area where we could sow wildflower seeds. We'll check it out and do the rest – but we hope in the future to be able to organise groups to sow seeds and add signs to let people know what's happening.
This project was inspired by seeing flowers growing at Veracity Recreation Ground (see photo) and in other places, and thinking about how we could do more to help bees, which are so important to us for growing food. We are grateful to Southampton City Council's Community Chest fund for supporting us.
