It's thought it was taken between Wednesday evening (March 3) and Thursday morning.

Police say they were called at 8.01am on Thursday.

A police spokesperson said: "Sometime between 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, 3 March) and 7am this morning (Thursday, 4 March) a digger was stolen from a building site on Adelaide Road, Southampton. The digger is described as a 1.8 tonne white, light grey and dark grey digger."

Much of Adelaide Road is currently closed for extensive gas safety work and it's thought that the digger may have been involved with that.
