Anti-airport expansion campaign group AXO has published a list of what it describes as "myths" about the airport's plans, that it then goes on to "bust".
Article continues after this message...
The "myth-buster", which is here, sets out to challenge the following 13 points that have been cited in favour of the plans:
1. The airport is not "expanding"
2. It is "greener" if we don't have to drive to other airports
3. Noise insulation means it will all be OK
4. The community fund will help
5. Noise will be capped
6. The airport will go bust without the extension
7. There aren't any suitable planes
8. We could lose 2000 potential jobs
9. It's good for the economy
10. It will be good for business
11. We should make it easier for people to enjoy a holiday in the sun
12. People will just fly from somewhere else
13. People who choose to live under the flight path shouldn't complain about noise
Meanwhile a "help save Southampton Airport" campaign is being pushed on the airport's website, with a section devoted to presenting its case. It gives answers to 'frequently asked questions', and encourages support, at https://www.southamptonairport.com/runway.
The airport says supporters have an opportunity to contact Eastleigh councillors (listed here) to express their views before a (presumably) final Eastleigh council meeting to decide the issue on April 8.
And AXO is urging those opposed to do the same.
