As reported, owners of Track 21 have been campaigning for CCTV "as a deterrent to stop thefts".
It was discussed with politicians and seven Triangle traders at a meeting in July 2019.
Track 21 was ironically broken into at the beginning of February. And there have been multiple other break-ins over the last couple of years: burglars broke in to Il Picchio last September, and the then DIY/hardware shop in July, while the vape shop, Diamond Pizzas, the baker's, a barber's, the bike shop and others have reportedly all also been affected.
Kerry Amies from Track 21 said traders are "really pleased" at the news.
"We can all install our own [cameras] but it only covers so much. We've put some cameras up that do cover quite a big span ... you don't want to have to do it, but it has been necessary.
"It's vehicle [registrations] that have been the big issue, and they're things that we can't capture on the shop CCTV, and they're sometimes the things that will help you to uncover what we need."
She said she's waiting to find out details of the new system, but it's thought it will be centrally positioned and operate in a similar way to the Portswood system.
The council however told bitternepark.info on Wednesday: "Southampton City Council is working with Councillors, police, utility companies and the local community to identify possible options and locations for CCTV in the area but the project is not yet at a stage where final details regarding location or funding for the scheme have been approved."
