Uncover the mysteries of the Earth and its oceans
There's a chance to uncover the mysteries of the Earth and its oceans at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton this Saturday March 15.
Visitors can learn how we explore the oceans and the Earth through amazing science and engineering; visit the aquarium; listen to short, informative talks, and take part in a range of exciting hands-on activities. There will be a chance to operate an underwater vehicle, learn about the way the oceans work and take a close look at fossils and sealife, as well as tours of a working research vessel, the RV Callista.
Visitors can experience first-hand the exciting technology that is helping us understand more about the least explored areas of our planet, their effect on the Earth's climate and the impact of mankind on their delicate ecosystems.
There will be competitions to win prizes, including a model remotely-operated underwater vehicle.
The Centre's cafeteria, with breathtaking views across the working port, will be open throughout the event for refreshments.
The event, which is organised in partnership with the University of Southampton, is part of National Science and Engineering Week - a countrywide celebration of the wonders of science.
Admission to the Ocean and Earth Day is free and doors open at 10:30am.
