Toll booths like these could be in place on Cobden Bridge as early as September

Plans to introduce a toll for vehicles using the ‘Cobden Free Bridge’ — as it was originally called when opened in 1883 — are already well advanced, bitternepark.info has learned. But while environmentalists have hailed the move as a common-sense way forward to solve ever-increasing pollution and congestion levels, commuters have warned that there’s no way they’ll stand for the proposed Ł2.75 toll, and dubbed it “outrageous”.
