BBC South presenter Sally Taylor will launch the local celebration of the National Year of Reading on Wednesday 16.

The free event takes place in the Mall Marlands Shopping Centre between 10am and 4pm. Sally Taylor will officially launch the event at 2pm.

The National Year of Reading offers the chance to take part in a range of events and activities under the banner
Let's Make Southampton A Reading City. The aim is to promote and celebrate reading across Southampton and provide an opportunity for all ages to engage with reading.

The launch marks the start of nine months of events supported by the
BBC RaW Campaign. Sally Taylor will be joined by staff from Southampton City Council’s Library Service, a children’s storyteller and a ‘book doctor’ to help visitors get back into reading or discover something new to read.
