Youth MP campaigns for youth bus fares

bus depotItchen Labour MP John Denham has met Southampton’s Youth MP Alice Weavers. They discussed her policies, including her campaign to reduce bus fares for young people.

Alice, a Year 10 student at Sholing College of Technology, is elected by young people in Southampton. She said: “When I visit London I can travel on the buses free. On the Isle of Wight there is a flat fare for young people of 50p. It’s much more expensive for young people to use buses in Southampton.”

John Denham has offered to help her in her contacts with the bus companies and the City Council.  “I congratulate Alice on her election as Youth MP for Southampton.  We had a very interesting discussion and I look forward to seeing how successful her campaign on bus fares is,” he said.
