During the workshop, run by Southampton City Council`s Adult Learning Team, there will be opportunities for older residents to try out the internet, with plenty of support for beginners.

The event takes place at Northam IT Centre in Kent Street from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Anyone over 50 is welcome to attend. They can come whatever their current experience - they may have never touched a computer before. There will be a 15 to 30 minute `taster` session on the internet and email basics, a chance to ask questions about areas of particular interest and information about digital switch-over and mobile phones.

All the workshops are free and there is no need to book.
