Don’t respond to gift offer

Consumer Direct South East advise against responding to mailshots, currently doing the rounds, that appear to offer free gifts donated by local businesses.

One particular mailshot includes a telephone line, apparently to claim a prize, but Consumer Direct are unable to confirm whether or not it is a premium rate line — even though it appears to be a normal number.

Consumer Direct also advise against ever paying any money in response to similar offers. “Administration fees”, or a “contribution” towards postage, is apparently sometimes requested.

They advise registering with the Mailing Preference Service to reduce similar junk mail.
