Consumer Direct South East advise against responding to mailshots, currently doing the rounds, that appear to offer free gifts donated by local businesses.
One particular mailshot includes a telephone line,
apparently to claim a prize, but Consumer Direct are unable to confirm
whether or not it is a premium rate line — even though it appears to be
a normal number.
Consumer Direct also advise against ever paying any money in response
to similar offers. “Administration fees”, or a “contribution” towards
postage, is apparently sometimes requested.
