As was widely expected, outline planning permission* has been granted for a new Sainsbury supermarket and car
parking for 325 spaces in Portswood following the demolition of the Bus
Depot.
Sainsbury's has previously said they hope to see the store open by 2010.
140 flats and townhouses plus a medical
centre would also be created as part of the development.
*OutlinePlanning Permission: Outline planning permission is granted when an applicant is seeking an agreement "in
principle" to a proposed development, without being committed to a
particular form of design or layout.
