K2 Urban Youth Festivals will be delivering Southampton’s largest young people’s event of the summer in Hogland’s Park on Saturday August 2 from 12—6pm. The event will combine music, arts and sport.
As well as seeing local young talent performing live, those attending will also have the chance to try out activities including a high rope climbing course, laser clay pigeon shooting, football skills and volley ball, music and dance workshops, graffiti and t-shirt printing — and sample free food from around the globe. Organisers say K2 not only provides positive activity for young people, but it also offers a chance to get involved. All of the DJs, MCs, bands and dancers performing on the main stage are under 25. Many of the activities are also organised by youth volunteers, who play a vital role in the lead up to K2 and on the day. On top of the entertainment and fun activities, a wide range of local agencies will be on hand to offer information, advice and support on issues affecting young people’s lives.
K2’s August event will also be the first to feature both BBC Blast on Tour and Network Rail’s No Messin’ Live.
No Messin’ is Network Rail’s award winning community campaign aimed at tackling railway crime and saving lives on the railway. Dozens of people are killed or injured on the railway every year by taking risks and shortcuts on the tracks and, as part of the campaign, the No Messin’ Live events are designed to engage young people in new and exciting activities and steer them away from the railway.
The BBC Blast Truck rolls into Hoglands Park on today (Thursday July 31), and converts into a mobile e-learning studio with performance marquee. Blast offers teenagers an opportunity to explore a variety of FREE workshops and showcase events and is packed with activities, from multi-media to music and dance. The events culminate on Saturday at 5pm with the Blast Talent Showcase, when all the films, music, dance and radio pieces created at Blast will be performed and screened.
K2 Urban Youth Festivals are coordinated by Southampton City Council Youth Service and Southampton Voluntary Services Safe in Sound Project.
