Aspects of local life are explored in a major exhibition of work by members of Red Hot Press - Southampton's artists' print workshop, to be held at the University of Southampton starting this month.

The collection features subjects as diverse as TV funny man Benny Hill’s influence on his home town, intrepid aviator Amelia Earhart’s visit to Woolston to Henry V’s historic departure for France for the battle of Agincourt. Bringing the show up-to-date are more contemporary images showing trees under threat from modern developments and containers at Southampton Docks.

All of the images on display feature in a box set of original prints accompanying the exhibition that will be on sale to the public. Individual prints will also be available for sale.

The Preface to the box set is written by Philip Hoare, author of books about Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde and recent work about Netley’s Royal Victoria Military Hospital, ‘Spike Island’.

'Made in Southampton'  will run from August 4 to October 3 at The Level 4 Gallery of the Hartley Library, University of Southampton, University Road Southampton map here

The exhibition is open from 9am - 9pm Monday to Saturday.
