There are opportunities to join in at a Bhangra Beats Drumming Workshop, and at a jazz rehearsal with Soweto Kinch and the Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra at Turner Sims Concert Hall this weekend.
You can hear evocative, exciting world music on Saturday 27 at a
Bhangra Beats Drumming Workshop with the Dhol Blasters. You can even bring your own percussion
instrument and join in.
The UK's top Dhol drummer, King of Dhol and founder of the Dhol
Blasters Gurcharan Mall will be leading these workshops, from 2-3pm for
families with under 12s, and from 3.30-4.30pm for over 12s.
A Dhol is a traditional north Indian drum played with sticks, often
used at festive occasions.
Then on Sunday 28 from 2pm at Turner Sims you can hear Southampton
Youth Jazz Orchestra in rehearsal with British jazz alto saxophonist
and rapper Soweto Kinch. There will
also be opportunities to join in.
Events are free but entrance is by ticket only — call the box office on
023 8059 5151.
