The object would be to try to influence planning decisions in the future - for example in cases where flats are proposed to replace family housing. The strategy might also apparently feed into any future bid for conservation status, or even strengthen local plan policies. Bitterne Park Residents’ Association says its committee has already resolved to explore the idea.

BPRA Chairman Malcolm Pain said that he felt the evening had been very positive, with useful information provided by the panel of officers, which included representatives from the Council’s planning and youth service, as well as local police representatives.

During the meeting, Mr Pain noted that the BPRA is reliant on local people bringing issues to its attention so that it can support “just causes”.
