Fire at 74 Whitworth Crescent

fire at harcourt mansions bitterne park There's been a fire at Harcourt Mansions, in Whitworth Cresent. Locals have previously protested about plans to demolish the building and replace it with flats.

The fire service said a fire on the third floor of a derelict boarding property spread to the roof. Approximately 25% of the third floor and 50% of the roof were damaged by the fire. Six breathing apparatus, four jets, one hose reel and ladders were used. Three fire engines and the Special Equipment Unit from St Marys fire station attended the incident on December 23 from 7.21pm until 11.00. One fire engine from Hightown and the aerial ladder platform from Redbridge fire station also attended with three officers.

The restored porch appeared to have also suffered fire damage prior to this incident.
