Celebrations to mark Chinese New Year

girl at chinese new yearThere’s a series of activities in Southampton on Sunday January 25 to mark the Chinese New Year - the year of the Ox.

masked person at chinese new yearThe spectacle starts at 11 am at the Civic Centre, with Southampton’s Mayor performing the ceremony of ‘dim jing’ — a ritual to bring the dragon to life. This is followed by displays, music, dance and, from around 12.30pm, the traditional parade through the City Centre.
