Det Sgt Gareth Jones of the Burglary Investigation Unit based at Hulse Road, said: “Burglars are preying on homes with expensive and high powered vehicles and then stealing keys by accessing insecure doors or reaching through letterboxes.
“We don’t know if vehicles are being stolen to order but a couple have been recovered on the outskirts of London and the Bitterne area seems to be the hotspot. Car owners across the city should be vigilant and report anything suspicious to police.”
Motorists are advised to fully lock their front door by using the key and make sure car keys are placed out of sight of the front door and any windows.
For safety and easy access, place keys on a hook or in a drawer away from windows and doors so they cannot be seen.
Anyone with any information on the recent incidents is asked to contact the Burglary Investigation Unit based at Hulse Road quoting Operation Kudos on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
