Bitterne Park street robbery: man knocked unconscious
A man suffered a suspected fractured cheekbone and a bruised eye after being attacked and robbed in Bitterne Park.
It happened on Friday, May 15 between 10.25-and 10.50pm. The 21-year-old was walking back from the Station Pub near Bitterne Railway Station along St Catherines Road by London Food and News (formerly the Spar shop) when he was knocked to the ground. He remembers being kicked to the head but little else as he was knocked unconscious.
The robbers took his wallet which contained various cards and around Ł30 in cash. They also stole his iPod Nano and a Samsung mobile phone. The victim was treated for his injuries at Southampton General Hospital.
Descriptions from the victim and a witness describe the robbers as a group of about 20 white and black males and female youths in their teens. One person was believed to be wearing shorts and a vest.
Officers are now appealing for other witnesses to the incident. PC Matt Buck from the Street Robbery Investigation team in Southampton said “I am appealing for anyone who may have seen this robbery to come forward. I am also asking for anyone within this group who may not have taken part in the robbery to come forward and assist police in identifying those responsible for assaulting the victim who was just walking home after a night out.”
Anyone with information can contact PC Buck at the Street robbery Team at Hulse Road on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
