Do
you have a kite to fly or would you simply like to watch one of the
most colourful events to happen in Southampton this year? Then visit the
kite festival this weekend.
The Kite Festival will be held over the weekend of June
20 & 21 from 10.00am - 5.30pm with night flying on Saturday evening.This year’s Festival promises a great show of many different types of kites, flying displays and kite competitions, as well as varied and interesting activities happening around the site.
Each day will see kite flying displays from the UK’s best Individuals, pairs and teams in National Sport Kite Competitions, as well as general entertainment and displays flying to music. There will also be a few special arena displays from local groups, including power kiting with buggies and boards.
The venue is Lordshill Sports Ground, 5 Acre Field, Lordshill, Southampton.
(Access is via Junction 2. M271 off Junction 3 M27 and the site entrance is off Redbridge Lane. Follow the AA Signs for easy access routes.
Weather and wind permitting, there will be a ‘Night Fly’ on Saturday evening from dusk. This is open to all fliers, with kites having lights attached or using reflective tapes. Some of the food traders will stay open as long as there are customers to serve!
Entry is free, parking is free and the sky is free for all to use and enjoy.
