Midsummer Dreams is a free family event to celebrate the start of building work on the City’s new ‘cultural quarter’. You can see the aerial spectacular, in which a troupe of drummers suddenly takes to the sky creating a human mobile, in the Guildhall Square on Saturday June 27 at 9pm. Midsummer Dreams consists of two main attractions: MOBILE HOMME and a firework flourish.
MOBILE HOMME will tower 40 metres in the air, suspended over the site of the new cultural quarter. A trapeze artist will spin, drums will pound, and fireworks will light up the summer sky.
Internationally acclaimed French street theatre company Transe Express perform the stunning spectacle, which will end with a firework flourish by Walk the Plank (creators of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture Transition fireworks).
This event is presented by The Nuffield in association with Southampton City Council. Produced by Zap Art.
The cultural quarter will apparently be an “exciting place that will be dedicated to bringing the best of the City’s arts and culture together” around the Guildhall Square area.
