On their travels, they make three special friends - a loveable Scarecrow with no brains, a Lion with no courage and a Tin Man longing for a heart. Dorothy knows that the Wonderful Wizard of Oz holds all the answers and together they set off to find him
.
Originally adapted from the MGM movie for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the show features all the favourite songs including Somewhere over the Rainbow, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and If I only had a Brain.
Leading the Company and returning by popular demand to the Nuffield is Granville Saxton whose previous Christmas roles include The Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood and, unforgettably, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. This year he will don the robes and make up as The Wicked Witch. Laughs and lunacy are guaranteed.
Dorothy is played by a gifted full-voiced young actress Maya Barcot, and she is joined by three authentic local little dogs, Pippin, Tinto and Archie. They will take in it turns to play Toto, following extensive doggy auditions earlier this year in Southampton.
Directed by Nuffield’s Artistic Director, Patrick Sandford, this captivating show is the perfect way to celebrate the Christmas season with a slice of nostalgia for those who remember the original film and a wonderful timeless story for the younger members of the audience.
The Nuffield Christmas shows have an enviable reputation for laughter and story telling, with a touch of absurd audience participation for those who wish.
So put on your ruby slippers and get along to The Nuffield for a fun packed and entertaining journey to find the wonderful WIZARD OF OZ.
