Southampton City Council introduces price cuts of up to 50% in its city
centre car parks from October 31, to encourage more people into the
city and to “help businesses and residents through lean times”.
The biggest cuts will be at the Six Dials and Trinity Road car parks where the 50% reductions will be made.
People who buy the council’s new Pay as you Park discount cards will be
able to get 20% reductions at Grosvenor Square, Bedford Place, Eastgate
Street, and Marlands multi-story car parks.
And there will be 20% reductions across all council-owned car parks for customers purchasing season tickets.
The measures will remain in place for a year, and will then be reviewed.
The council decided to act after it became clear that less people were
using the city car parks during the recession.
