Local historian Christine Clearkin will give an illustrated talk on ‘Richard Eurich — visionary artist’ in the first of a series of talks organised by Friends of Cobbett Road Library.

Christine has co-authored a book on Richard Eurich, who had many long associations with Southampton: he lived in Dibden Purlieu from 1934 up to his death in 1992; for thirty years he was the Chairman and Royal Academy Representative of the F.W. Smith Bequest Purchasing Committee at the City Art Gallery; and for many years he was President of the Southampton Art Society.

In her talk, Christine will trace the course of Eurich’s long career, through his successful early days as a marine artist, his time as an official war artist to the Admiralty, the post-war failure of the market for his paintings, his subsequent ‘rediscovery’, and finally his dramatic change of artistic style after his retirement.

All are welcome. Library Friends look forward to seeing you at
Cobbett Road Library on Friday January 29 at 7.15pm.
