This February local residents attended a public meeting to launch the Bitterne Park Greening Campaign.Greening Campaign Director, Terena Plowright, gave a presentation outlining the Campaign. She highlighted the importance of engaging the community, and involving people in taking part in simple, straightforward measures which would help towards combating the problems of climate change.
Following the presentation people joined in groups to select simple “action challenges for Bitterne Park” from a list of fifteen suggestions. These challenges should soon be printed on cards for people to undertake; they can then be displayed in windows to show support for the campaign. Terena, who first set up this campaign in Petersfield, said that the Greening Campaign is fun, structured, and makes fighting climate change visible in the community; and it has proved successful in other areas. Her website for this campaign is www.greening-campaign.co.uk
